BACKGROUND
Born in 1932, Peter Blake attended Gravesend School of Art and then the Royal College of Art , where his contemporaries were Bridget Riley and Frank Auerbach. One of the leading pioneers of Pop art, his use of imagery from comics, pin-up magazines and consumer goods captures the essence of his time. His work on album covers such as 'Band Aid', 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club' and Paul Weller's 'Stanley Road' helped to establish him firmly in the British consciousness.
